This workshop provides practical suggestions and support to build confidence and skills needed to manage the everyday challenges of living with a chronic health condition. The goal is to improve the quality of your life.
The program was initially developed at Stanford University. Canadian research confirms it is making a real difference in the lives of participants.
- Symptom management (relaxation techniques, self-talk, visualization)
- Goal setting and problem solving
- Nutrition and exercise guidelines
- Communication skills
- How to access community resources
- Managing emotions such as frustration and fear
- How to get the most out of life
Two trained volunteer leaders, who also have a chronic health condition, lead a group of 10-15 for 2.5 hours, once a week for six weeks.
Classes are fun and practical.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone who is experiencing a chronic health condition such as:
- Heart Disease
- Chronic Lung Disease
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Kidney Disease
- Chronic Pain
- HIV/Hepatitis C
- And Others
Individuals caring for persons with chronic health conditions are also welcome to attend.
What does the Workshop Cost?
There is no cost for the workshop. Each participant receives a free copy of the companion book, Living a Health Life with Chronic Conditions, compliments of the Five Hills Health Region.
Where is the Workshop Offered?
The workshop is offered in Moose Jaw and several rural communities in the Region.
Peer Leader Training Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities to co-lead this six week workshop may be available. Leaders receive four full days of training and a leader’s manual. Please call 306-691-6508 if you are interested in sharing the skills that help people with chronic health problems improve their lives.
